Introduce yourself and your role at Agency Works...

"I work with potential clients, working out what they need, understanding their challenges and goals, and getting them the information they need to decide whether Synergist is the best next step for them.

"Essentially, I’m a facilitator, I connect agencies with our wonderful team and their insights.

"My job is really about listening, understanding, and finding the right solution. If it isn’t a good fit, we’re always very open about that. We always make sure that we are doing what is right by the people and teams we are working with."

What path did you take to get here?

"I did not plan this in the slightest! I had absolutely no mathematical ability or inclination when I was at School or University - my degree is in History and Philosophy - so I didn't see anything coming where I'd need to have a commercial mindset.

"To cut a long story short, I left university and went to work in project management teams at a hospital, where I then went into pharmaceutical advertising and marketing. From there, I moved to several different B2B marketing agencies.

"I decided to leave the agency world when I realised what I loved best was the commercial and operational side of the business. I love the actual understanding of how agencies work, what their team and clients need to ensure success, and how they can push boundaries and push the business forward.

"I love Synergist and Agency Works because they both totally changed my mindset. I never thought I'd see the day where the numbers got me excited. It gave me a new outlook on things that I hadn't thought about before."

What's do you enjoy most about your role?

"It's definitely meeting with new people, understanding their agency and giving them the confidence that we can help them.

"I like to hear what people are going through and know that, ultimately, we can find a solution that works for them, and the goals they want to achieve."

What's the best thing about working at Agency Works?

"I’m going to give you the same answer that everyone’s given… it has to be the people.

"I also love the fact that Agency Works is always changing, always adapting and always learning. It never feels like it's stagnating, and you always feel like you're being listened to.

"It’s a place that values its people, and its people are loyal to it for that reason."

What do you like about agency life?

"I think the camaraderie, the excitement, the fact that no two days are the exact same. There's no monotony with agencies. The relationships you forge as well, because they aren't just colleagues, they’re friends.

"Everyone has fun because they’re all doing something they genuinely set out to do. That’s really nice to be a part of."

What value do clients get from working with you?

"Clients will always get honesty from me - whether that means delivering a solution that exactly fits their needs or being upfront when we aren't necessarily a right fit.

"Also, I’ve been where my clients are, I understand how agencies work, the challenges they face, and how hard their roles can really be. It is a really difficult job, and I get it, I really do – so what I think they get from me is empathy as well.

"There’s naturally a lot of uncertainty and fear around change, especially when it comes to introducing new software or processes, so I’m the first point of reassurance around that, to settle any worry and offer support early on."

What would you be doing if you weren’t in this job?

"Ooh, this is a hard one as I never had an idea of what I would do with my life - this career path has organically grown.

"I’ve always loved to party though, so maybe if I wasn’t in this role I would be a celebrant or something. Who doesn’t love the idea of seeing the happiest days of people's lives and being a small part of it."

Any unfulfilled life ambitions?

"Maybe used my degree a bit more. I loved history, I still do, but now I channel that love into learning about the world, and (hopefully) inspiring my kids to love and learn from the past.

"I can honestly say I don’t have any unfilled life ambitions, I don’t live with regrets. You can’t change the past, you can learn from it but not change it. So, I just try every single day to enjoy where I am, what I have achieved and the amazing people I have around me. The rest will work itself out."

What do you like doing when you're not at work?

"I'm very fortunate to have lots of lovely family and friends around who we spend a lot of time with.

"We also love family adventures, as you can imagine, they are usually history related. At the moment, our son’s are obsessed with ships and maritime history so we spend a great deal of time visiting shipyards. Who knows what their next topic will be, I do enjoy when we get to do a castle though...

"When we’re not with the kids, my husband and I love going out for drinks, to the theatre, for dinner, to meet friends, just anything that doesn’t involve soft play and snotty noses really."

And finally, any interesting talents or claims to fame?

"I was on the background of The Antiques Roadshow once when I was at university. We were definitely the youngest people there.

"I’ve also been in the Daily Mail, dressed as Santa Claus and stuck on top of a phone box. It was during my agency days when a load of us went to Santa Con, where a whole load of Santas just take over the whole of London. We all got rammed into this phone box and I was stuck on top. I think that picture’s now in the library of Getty Images. Sadly, I don’t get paid every time it gets used!"
